Educational goals

Organizations must continue to evolve to meet the new demands of Industry 4.0 and the PNRR in today's highly competitive and dynamic environment. This entails: a) Establishing methodologies for designing, developing, managing, and improving products, processes, and organizational structures. b) Monitoring the ongoing growth and evolution of innovation processes. c) Transferring and adapting knowledge on a large scale within industry. d) Leveraging results to foster innovation expansion and define new evolutionary requirements for products, processes, and organizational structures. In this environment, it's essential for professionals, particularly doctors, to possess the ability to design and oversee production systems and innovative services holistically. This involves making technological choices that align with existing business strategies and specific industrial contexts. Furthermore, the outcomes of research within this program should be evaluated in terms of their broader impact on community and well-being, including their potential effects on various financial sectors. Specifically, the PhD program in Industrial and Management Engineering focuses on the evolution of: - Products and services, including new technical features, operational aspects, and conceptual solutions. - Technologies, spanning from experimental phases to the implementation of new production processes at an industrial scale, particularly in highly digitalized environments. - Business processes, aiming to continuously enhance efficiency and effectiveness across manufacturing, environmental, safety, competitiveness, and social responsibility objectives. - Strategies and organizational models that facilitate value creation and competitive positioning. - Business networks, utilizing different approaches for coordination, collaboration, and risk and benefit sharing. Research activities encompass a wide range of fields, including advanced production techniques such as Additive Manufacturing and 3D printing, biomedical engineering product design, ergonomics and human factors management, resilience of complex socio-technical systems, integration of Cyber-Physical Systems and the Internet of Things in Smart Factories, management of reliability, maintainability, safety, and security in industrial systems, risk management and governance in business, integrated design and optimization of supply chains, production processes, and services, including Product Service Systems, and environmental management of industrial systems.
