How can I set up Outlook, Eudora, or other programs to access my mailbox?
You can use specific programs with POP3-IMAP-SMTP settings to access your mailbox. Click on Google for instructions.
What can I do if Outlook Express does not allow me to download attachments?
Some programs (such as Microsoft Outlook Express 6) prevent you from reading and downloading attachments with a specific file extension. To disable it, open Outlook Express, go to → Tools → Options → Protection and uncheck the option “do not allow attachments to be saved or opened that could potentially be a virus”. PLEASE NOTE: IT IS IMPORTANT TO UPDATE THE ANTIVIRUS SOFTWARE CONSTANTLY.
How can I set up my “out of office” message?
Through the “out of office/vacation responder” section, you can set up an automatic reply for your incoming mail. On your computer:
- Open Gmail.
- In the top right, click Settings Settings.
- Scroll down to the “Vacation responder” section.
- Select Vacation responder on.
- Fill in the date range, subject, and message.
- Under your message, check the box if you only want your contacts to see your vacation reply.
- At the bottom of the page, click Save Changes.
PLEASE NOTE: the automatic reply will be immediate.
I would like to forward my uniroma1.it email to a different private email address
You can forward your email to other accounts you have access to. The Google Apps owner must do the procedure, and confirmation from the recipient is necessary. Settings → Forwarding and POP/IMAP
I cannot download my mail. Error message: Server: 'pop.gmail.com' [...]
Error message "Error message: Server: 'pop.gmail.com', Protocol: POP3, Port: 995, Secure(SSL): Yes, Error Number: 0x800C0133" usually indicates a corrupt Inbox. Please cancel the messages you do not need and create folders for each category. I cannot remember my password. How can I recover it?

You will be able to automatically reset it only if you have previously indicated the following information on your Profile:
- a private email address (where you can receive your new password);
- the answer to a security question (to be chosen among those suggested)
You can set up this information on your Profile. If you need to reset your password, but you do not have the previous security information, you can mail recuperopassword@uniroma1.it, indicate the email address you need to recover and a different private address where you can receive your password. You must attach your ID card.
How can I set up my favourite email client software?
To work with client software, you need to set up your “secondary password”. The following is the procedure for a typical “name.surname@uniroma1.it” address:
- Full Name or display name: [Name Surname]
- Account Name or User Name: your email address (name.surname@uniroma1.it)
- Email address: your email address (name.surname@uniroma1.it)
- Password: your secondary password

How can I set up my mobile phone?
Open your smartphone’s Gmail app, create a new account and type in your “uniroma.1” email address. From time to time, the system will send you to the university login page. No other settings are needed.
I have got a private Gmail address. Can I use both my accounts at the same time?
Yes, you can open several accounts at the same time using the same browser. Open your Google App, click on your account’s icon (top right) and click “add another account”. The system will ask you for information about your other account. You can repeat this procedure for different accounts.
When I type in my Username and Password, the system does not work
If you receive the following message “Login Failed: Invalid user” please check whether you typed in the right password. Please note: double-check single characters and uppercase and lowercase letters too.
