ISEE Declaration (Tuition fees reduction)
What is ISEE
2020 ISEE for Right to Education (dpcm. 159/2013)
ISEE is an official form which indicates students' financial standing in any given year on the basis of family status, earnings, property and expenses. ISEE must be calculated and certified by a Tax Assistance Centre (CAF) or on the INPS website. Calculating the ISEE at a CAF is a free operation, after about 10 days it’s reported on the Inps database. The only ISEE students need is the one from the current year, even if they enrol in a degree course in January. Therefore, for the academic year 2020-21, the Isee must be calculated and go on record before paying the first instalment of the tuition and in any case no later than December 20, 2020.
To determine the right amount of your tuition fees for the academic year 2020-21 you can use your current Isee (which takes into account 2020 financial standing) rather than the ordinary Isee (which refers to 2018). The change from ordinary Isee to current Isee must be requested in a Caf (Tax Assistance Centre) or via the Inps website or from your accountant. After the change, you can pay your fees according to the current Isee rather than the ordinary Isee. To pay 2020-21 fees using the Isee at current value, follow the normal procedure on Infostud. If the value calculated according to the current Isee is present in the Inps database, the system will automatically acquire the latter.
The current Isee is valid for six months from the presentation of your Individual Income Tax Return. To pay your fees for the academic year 2020-21, better to have your Isee calculated at the current value in September.
The current Isee is an update of the already released ordinary Isee, calculated according to one of the following alternative requirements:
- a change in your working situation or interruption of social security, welfare and benefits not included in the total income for one or more members of your family unit. The changes must have occurred after January 1 of the Isee income reference year (for the 2020 Individual income Tax Return the change must have occurred after January 1, 2018);
- a change of more than 25% in the overall income situation of your family unit compared to the income situation identified in the Isee ordinarily calculated.
Further information on the current Isee (by Inps) can be found in the Annexes section.
Students fees are based on their Isee
The lower your ISEE Declartion is, the lower your tuition fees will be.
No ISEE Option
Students who don’t want to calculate the ISEE can flag the “I do not declare ISEE” option. They will pay the regular tuition fees.
Tuition Fees Calculator
To facilitate fees calculus there is an automatic calculator that calculates the amount to pay once uploaded the student’s Isee value. Please notice the automatic calculator doesn’t consider exemptions.

Calculate your Isee on time
To get an ISEE-based tuition fee reduction, you need your 2020 declaration to be uploaded to the system before the first instalment of the tuition fees is due. As it takes several days to prepare the ISEE and upload it, students should go to a CAF at least 30 days before the deadline for the 1st tuition fee instalment.
Authorisation to acquire your Isee from the Inps database
To obtain the reduction of fees according to the Isee it is necessary to request the calculation at a Caf (Tax Assistance Centre) or on the Inps website and authorise the University, through the Infostud system, to acquire the value from the Inps database by selecting the appropriate option "Acquire Isee from Inps". This procedure avoids possible errors in data entry by the student. If the value calculated from the current Isee will be present in the Inps database, the system will acquire the value from the current Isee.
Lump sum option for 1st Tuition Fee Instalment
In exceptional events, if the ISEE Declaration hasn’t been uploaded on time, students may pay a lum sum before enrolling in a degree course. After paying the lump sum, Infostud will create a balance for the 1st instalment and the 2nd and 3rd (the total amount for degree programmes in Group 1 is €2.821,00 and the total amount for degree programmes Group 2 is €2.924,00). The amounts due will be amended if the ISEE Declaration is upload by December 21, 2020.
Mandatory Deadline for 2020
Students benefitting from the lump sum option must submit their ISEE Declaration by December 21, 2020. If after the deadline of the 2nd tuition fee instalment, the ISEE is still not available, the students will pay the regular fees for the academic year 2020-21.
Students who canot benefit from Isee:
• Enrolled students in remote in agreement with Consorzio Nettuno or students following telematics courses in agreement with Unitelma University
• Students enrolled in Specialisation Schools;
• Students enrolled in post-degree courses.
Sapienza University supervises ISEE statements. Students who insert a wrong ISEE will be fined by the Administrative Board (sanction n. 8/13 from January 22, 2013).
