Assessment and recognition of scientific quality 

Sapienza oversees the assessment of scientific research quality, coordinating departmental and institutional activities to ensure excellence.

Research Quality Assessment (VQR) 2020-2024: Sapienza actively participates in the VQR, coordinating the presentation and assessment of the scientific output of lecturers and researchers.
Departments of Excellence 2023 - 2027: Sapienza promotes participation in prestigious national initiatives, such as the “Departments of Excellence”, with the aim of enhancing and supporting its best facilities.

To ensure that these standards are met, Sapienza supports lecturers and researchers in fulfilling their research assessment obligations, in line with the provisions of the MUR (Ministry of University and Research) and ANVUR (Agenzia Nazionale di Valutazione del Sistema Universitario e della Ricerca) and VQR (Research Quality Assessment).

To this end, Sapienza:

• supports teaching and research staff at all levels in the constant updating of their scientific output archived in the IRIS institutional repository, including through the development of guidelines for the inclusion of research outputs and their validation;
• promotes internal assessment of research outputs, collects and analyses data and information useful for the evaluation of Sapienza's faculties, departments and initiatives;
• coordinates activities related to the institutional assessment of university research, in collaboration with departmental research representatives;
• supports Sapienza's community in promoting outreach activities and responsible research.
