Programmes in English

The current pre-selection procedure started on December 22, 2025. Please note that the deadline for Non-EU candidates (visa applicants) expired on May 15, 2026. The application process will remain open until July 31, 2026, exclusively for EU and EU-equivalent candidates (who do not require a visa).

To help you verify your eligibility in advance and avoid submitting a non-eligible application, applicants are kindly required to read the documents below before proceeding with the pre-selection.
Only candidates who meet the requirements indicated therein should proceed with the pre-selection application:

  1. Read the admissions requirements for the programme(s) you are interested in

Pre-selection, mandatory for programmes in English and a few programmes in Italian listed in the Admission requirments document above, is only one of the necessary steps for admissions. 2026-2027 Pre-selection deadlines

Non-EU candidates residing abroad and requiring a visa: December 22, 2025 - May 15, 2026 - Pre-accepted students will have to register on the Universitaly platform by June 30th, 2026.

Between 15 May and the end of June 2026, non-EU candidates could only apply for programmes taught in Italian.  

All other candidates (EU or equivalent): deadline set on July 31, 2026.

What is a pre-selection application?

A pre-selection application is an online application allowing international students to be assessed well before the official Call for applications is published in the Course catalogue. Pre-selection is available for most English-taught Bachelor's and Master's programmes not requiring an in-person admission test, and for a limited number of Italian-taught programmes.

This application is particularly important for those applying for a study visa to enter Italy. Most programmes will ask pre-selection applicants to provide:

  • Passport
  • High School and University Diploma
  • Transcript of Records
  • Language Certificate
  • Reference Letter (optional)
  • Additional supporting documents

Each student can apply for a maximum of 2 programmes per academic year.

Application process

Here are the main steps international students have to follow to apply to one of our programmes:

  1. Complete a pre-selection application on MoveIn (if available for your programme, see list in the Admission requirements document)

  2. Create an account on Infostud, Sapienza's student services portal

  3. Follow the instructions for the whole procedure contained on the International Student Office page and in your programme's "Call for applications" available in the Course catalogue (Call for applications are published not before late June. Read the "Apply Section").

  4. Apply for a study visa on Universitaly (NON-UE STUDENTS ONLY) by June 30th, 2026.

General requirements for admission

  • Students applying for a Bachelor's programme must hold a high school diploma earned after at least 12 years of studies;
  • Students applying for a Master's programme must hold at least a 3-year Bachelors degree from a recognized university in a relevant discipline;
  • Additionally, all students must have at least an upper-intermediate knowledge of English OR Italian (B2 level), depending on their chosen programme. Some programmes also require students to sit a mandatory admission test (e.g. Medicine and Surgery).

IMPORTANT: Please note that final admissions are dependent on the successful outcome of all of the above steps, some of which are not controlled or managed by Sapienza University of Rome. Do make sure to follow all the regulations applying to your specific status (e.g. visa applicant, permanent resident, international degree holder, etc.)

Pre-selection fee, tuition fees and benefits, scholarships

All pre‑selection candidates are required to pay a €30 application fee for each submitted application (up to a maximum of two applications per candidate per intake). No application fee waiver is available under any circumstances.

Full tuition for our Bachelor's and Master's programmes is € 300-1500/year, according to country of residence (visit the page Tuition fees and Benefits for further details).
We are able to offer such convenient rates thanks to public funding by the Italian Ministry of Higher Education. 
Additionally, students can apply for various scholarships available at different levels, awarded on the basis of academic merit and/or family income.
