Regeni Prize for dissertations on the protection of human rights

The Italian Ministry of Universities and Research (MUR) establishes five prizes for master's and doctoral theses, named in memory of Giulio Regeni, an Italian researcher killed in Egypt while working for his PhD.

The call, issued by the MUR and managed by the CRUI (Conference of Italian University Rectors), aims to award university students and young researchers presenting concrete proposals for the protection of human rights in the economic, social and political spheres.

Dissertations presented between January 1, 2019, and December 31, 2020, which fall within one of the following subject areas, may be submitted:

  • Ancient world studies, philological-literary and historical-artistic sciences
  • Historical, philosophical, pedagogical and psychological sciences
  • Legal sciences
  • Economics and Statistics
  • Political and social sciences

Cash prizes will be awarded to the winners in a single instalment as follows:

  • three €3,000.00 prizes (three thousand each) for master's theses
  • two € 6,000.00 prizes (six thousand each) for PhD theses.

Only the following categories can submit the eligible thesis:

  • Department Directors of Italian state and non-state legally recognised universities,
  • Deans of University schools or faculties, acting as an interdepartmental liaison between institutions.

Signed applications and all the required documentation can be sent exclusively online via the CINECA'S PICA portal by 1 pm on March 15, 2021.
