1. Requirements and terms
A. You can apply for graduation if you have acquired 96% (rounded down) of the credits required by your degree programme, excluding the credits required for the final exam, unless otherwise specified by your Faculty in the Memo for graduating students.
B. Your administrative office is required to audit the regularity of payments and the entire educational programme, to assess compliance with the regulations, the Regulations/Manifesto of the degree programme and/or the educational programme (if existing and authorised by the teaching bodies), also in relation to the number of credits required and any prerequisites. If you are not in good standing, you will not be able to take the final exam.
C. You can graduate one session early if you have the explicit authorisation:
- to take exams early from the President of your degree programme;
- to take the final exam early from the Faculty Council (Resolution of the Academic Senate of 22 November 2005).
D. You can graduate one year early if:
- you have authorisation to take exams early from the President of your degree programme;
- you have passed your exams with an average grade of 29/30;
- you have authorisation to take the final exam early from the Faculty Council. (Academic Senate Resolution of 15 December 2009).
E. If you request early graduation (either one semester only or a whole year), you must still pay the enrolment fees for the last year in which you are enrolled.
2. Procedures
A. To obtain your degree, you must:
- agree with a lecturer on the topic of your thesis/final dissertation for the purposes of assignment (for thesis work abroad, see Art. 11);
- submit your degree application;
- pay the enrolment fees (if applicable).
B. You are entitled to be assigned a topic and a lecturer to act as your supervisor at least six months before the end of your course of study and in any case within a maximum of 30 days from the date of your request to the relevant departments. If the lecturer you have chosen to act as your supervisor is not available, the degree programme director is required to appoint a lecturer to act as your supervisor.
C. The final examination for bachelor's degree programmes involves the submission of a thesis. The topic must be agreed with a lecturer in a disciplinary scientific area included in your educational programme among the core, characterising and related or supplementary subjects.
D. The final examination for second level degree programmes requires the writing of an innovative thesis. The topic of the thesis must be agreed upon with a lecturer from a disciplinary scientific area included in your educational programme.
E. Preparation of the thesis/final essay
- During the period of writing your thesis/final essay, the lecturer acting as your supervisor is required to assist you in your work.
- You are required to produce a dissertation based on the agreed guidelines, clearly stating the sources used and complying with the scientific conventions of the specific field of study with regard to the acknowledgement of other people's work.
- The time commitment for the preparation of the final essay must be consistent with the number of credits awarded for the final examination.
- The thesis/final essay is a creative intellectual work of a scientific nature, protected by copyright law (Law 633/1941).
- The thesis must be uploaded to the appropriate “Thesis” section of the degree application (see below), only after acceptance by the student office.
- The degree application procedure requires the final thesis or dissertation, if applicable, to be attached in electronic format only. A paper copy is not required.
F. Submission of the degree application
- The deadlines and procedures for submitting the degree application can be found in the Memo for graduating students of each Faculty, available on the university website on the dedicated page, at the following link https://www.uniroma1.it/it/node/29481
Further information, including information on the final exam, is published on the web page of each degree programme, in the “Graduating” section of the course catalogue on the website https://corsidilaurea.uniroma1.it/
- When submitting your degree application, you must complete the Alma Laurea questionnaire according to the procedures described on the dedicated web page
G. Withdrawal and resubmission of degree applications
You may withdraw your degree application and resubmit it in a subsequent degree session (resubmission) in the same manner as the first submission.
H. If the re-submission of the degree application takes place in an academic year following that of the previous application, you will have to pay the €16.00 stamp duty again. In this case, you will have to write an email to the administrative office of your degree programme to request that the payment slip be generated on Infostud.
3. Costs
A. To graduate, you will have to pay:
- €32 for stamp duty when submitting your degree application;
- enrolment fees, if applicable;
- any fines for late payment, if applicable.
B. If you graduate by 31 January 2026, you do not have to pay enrolment fees for the 2025-2026 academic year. Otherwise, the first and second instalments for the 2025-2026 academic year must be paid by 31 January 2026 (without penalty for late payment) and the third instalment by 26 March 2026.
Graduation sessions starting on 1 February 2026 will be for the 2025-2026 academic year.
The above specified calendar does not apply to bachelor's degree programmes in healthcare professions, for which current legislation provides for two graduation periods per academic year (the first in October-November and the second in March-April). Accordingly, the March-April 2026 session relates to the 2024-2025 academic year and therefore no tuition fees are required for the 2025-2026 academic year.
C. If you graduate by the March 2026 session:
if you have paid the first and second instalments for the 2025-2026 academic year and you graduate by the March 2026 session, you do not have to pay the third instalment of the enrolment fees, which will be cancelled on the information system by your Administrative office.
This provision does not apply if you have opted for part-time study (Board of Directors' resolution of 9 December 2009).
If you are enrolled in distance learning programmes through specific agreements with online universities, you will have to pay both instalments of the 2025-2026 fees, even if the deadline for the second instalment is March 2026.
D. If you are only required to take your final examination and are not up to date with your payments, you must pay the University a fixed fee of €290.00 for each year of interruption, as specified in Article 42.
E. If you are enrolled in a programme that qualifies you to practise a profession, when you submit your degree application, you will also have to pay the standard fee for professional qualification, calculated on the basis of your ISEE (Equivalent Economic Situation Indicator) and up to a maximum of €180, to which the regional and state taxes must be added.
If you pay fixed enrolment fees based on your country of origin, the standard fee for professional qualification will be paid proportionally and divided as follows (Board of Directors' resolution of 30 May 2023):
- Band A (annual registration fee of €300): licence fee = €36;
- Band B (annual registration fee of €700): licence fee = €84;
- Band C (annual registration fee of €1,500): licence fee = €180.
4. Parchment
When your graduation parchment is ready, you will receive an email notification at your institutional email address, and you can collect it from your administrative office 10 days after the notification is sent.
5. Parchment duplicate following theft/loss/damage/personal details changes
A. To request a parchment duplicate following theft or loss, you must send a stamped application form as specified on the page https://www.uniroma1.it/it/node/28758
B. To request a parchment duplicate following damage, you must submit your application as specified above and return the damaged original for which you are requesting a duplicate to the Administrative Office.
C. To request a duplicate of the parchment following changes to your personal details (with the exception of those specified in Article 13), you must submit the application as specified above, attaching a certificate of correct identity, and submit the original for which you are requesting the change to the Administrative Office.
D. For the duplicate, you will have to pay £70 and two duty stamps worth £16 each.
The payment methods are specified on the form.
