Art. 28 - CAREER INTERRUPTION FOR HEALTH REASONS, PREGNANCY, FIRST YEAR OF PARENTHOOD, SPORTS COMMITMENTS

 

1. Requirements and terms

A. You may interrupt your university career for an entire academic year if you are currently enrolled in a full-time programme and fall into one of the following categories:

- serious and prolonged illness, duly certified (Art. 9, paragraph 4 of Legislative Decree No. 68 of 29 March 2012);

- pregnancy (resolution of the Academic Senate of 12 October 2021)

- first year of birth/adoption of a child (resolution of the Academic Senate of 12 October 2021);

- status of “student athlete” with regular enrolment within the second year beyond the allotted time of the programme (resolution of the Academic Senate of 26 March 2024).

B. You may submit a maximum of two requests for interruption for each cycle of studies (bachelor's degree, master's degree, etc.).

C. The interruption replaces enrolment in the academic year and cannot be withdrawn even during the academic year.

D. You may not take any examinations in the academic year relating to the request, under penalty of cancellation, nor may you perform any administrative acts concerning your student career.

E. The year of interruption is not counted:

- for the calculation of years beyond the allotted time of your programme;

- for the maximum time limit for obtaining the degree.

2. Procedures

Upon your request, the Administrative Office will send you a copy of the career interruption notice.

3. Deadlines

Applications must be submitted between 1 September and 6 November 2025.

The interruption of studies will be arranged by 31 January 2026.

The resumption of studies will take place in the following academic year and must be formalised by the deadlines set for the payment of the first instalment of the enrolment fee.

4. Costs

A. When resuming your university career, you must pay – within the deadlines set for the first instalment – a fixed fee for the year of career interruption of 290.

B. As a fixed fee, this amount is not related to the amount of the first instalment for the degree programme in the year of application for career interruption.

C. Upon your request, the Administrative office will generate the amount to be paid on Infostud.

D. If you have a disability, with a disability rating of 66% or above, or if you have a disability certificate pursuant to Article 3, paragraphs 1 and 3, of Law No. 104 of 5 February 1992, or if you are a student athlete, you will be required to pay a fixed fee of €30 for each year of non-enrolment.
