The Observatory of Social Theory for new Technologies and active Sustainability of Sapienza, following a proposal by the Regional Coordinating Committee of the Universities of Lazio (Crul), the University Committee for Sustainable Development (CASe) and the University of Cassino and Southern Lazio promote a creative contest aimed at enhancing the projects of university students of any course, on sustainable development. During the ASVIS Festival of Sustainable Development, from September 22 to October 8, 2020, all the contributions will be presented. The theme is sustainable development with regard to the 2030 UN Agenda for Sustainable Development.

The Festival aims to offer the best chance for all those students about to enter the job market, willing to put into practice their educational experiences. Theses, group projects, patents, prototypes, technological applications and everything else the students have created during their educational path can be submitted.

Requirements

  • the contest is open to all students of the university communities of Lazio whether part of the Crul or other universities in the region;
  • group projects are particularly welcome, and in cases of collaborations of individuals not attending any university, at least half of the members must report to a University of the Lazio Region;
  • contributions must be inspired by and refer to the themes of the 2030 UN Agenda for Sustainable Development.
  • participants are encouraged to consider the different dimensions (social, environmental, economic, institutional) of the chosen sustainable development goals (SDGs) as a source of inspiration, enhancing the correlation between them.

How to participate

Participants must prepare their project, inspired by sustainable development issues, in the preferred form (thesis, group work, videos, patents, prototypes, technological applications, etc.), and mail at sviluppo.sostenibile@unicas.it the following materials:

  • the completed application form and the description of the project with a short text or video;
  • the projects, as files, audio, video or other support must be sent with the application form;
  • if the project is non-transferable, a detailed written, photographic or video description is required;
  • the entries must be sent by Monday, September 30.

The Evaluation Committee appointed by the Crul will conclude the evaluation of the proposals, received anonymously, on October 5, and the results will be published on the contest website. The most representative work will be chosen for each of the SDGs to which the work is inspired. By participating in the contest, the participants declare and guarantee that the contents of the entries submitted are original and that they do not violate copyright and/or related rights and/or commercial exploitation rights and/or industrial and intellectual property rights of any person or entity.
By submitting their work, the participants authorise the organisers and sponsoring bodies to publish the material online and offline and to make it available to the public, even after the final deadline of this competition. After the contest, the Crul will be able to give adequate diffusion of all the works received through publication upon communication to the authors. Admission to the competition is at the absolute discretion of the committee.

Notes

After the papers will be delivered, the Evaluation Committee reserves the right to contact the individual participants for clarifications regarding the proposals submitted, in order to better prepare the work for the evaluation phase. By way of simplification and not exhaustive, here are some possible papers that could be submitted:

  • degree thesis,
  • master's thesis,
  • PhD theses discussed, or to be discussed, by the end of AY. 2019-20- AY. 2018-19
  • research reports, reportages,
  • photographic, audio and video representations,
  • hardware and software processing
  • patents, prototypes, devices
  • startup

All entries received by September 30 will be available on the contest channels, after verification of compliance with participation requirements. The entries received will be collected and included in an audio/video final product, which will be available to all CRUL Universities that may use it for their own, or future initiatives, on sustainability issues.
 For the production of the final audio/video product, the organisers reserve the right to directly involve the authors of the products sent, compatibly with the COVID-19 emergency. The Crul will make any organisational and procedural changes, after adequate information, in consideration of changed social conditions following the health emergency.

The award ceremony is scheduled for October 7 at one of the Crul's member universities.
