EtnoMuSa in Cuba as part of the Armonie Culturali project

EtnoMusa engaged in Cuba as part of the Armonie Culturali musical exchange project. The initiative is part of a broader programme of cultural promotion in the Matanzas region

From October 4 to 12, EtnoMuSa is involved in Cuba in the musical exchange project Armonie Culturali (Cultural Harmonies), conceived by Arcs Culture Solidali, in collaboration with Sapienza University and funded by MAECI (Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation). The project is part of a broader programme to promote the cultural and creative industries in the Matanzas area, called Zone Creative, funded by AICS La Habana (Italian Agency for Development Cooperation).

The activities take place mainly in Matanzas, known as the Athens of Cuba for its cultural significance, and include a meeting between the EtnoMuSa orchestra and the Orquesta Juvenil Jazz Swing Cubano, composed of 25 young musicians conducted by Bruno Villalonga, an experienced trombonist and leading figure in Cuban music. The Cuban orchestra was created to bring the younger generation closer to the deepest values of national and universal culture. The exchange aims to promote mutual understanding between the two groups, creating a constructive dialogue and a shared discovery of their respective territories and musical traditions.

At the end of the tour, the following events are planned: a joint concert as part of the celebrations for the birthday of the city of Matanzas inside the famous Teatro Sauto, and then in Havana, in two of the city's most iconic cultural venues: the Casa della Cultura in Centro Habana, already a venue for international musical events, and the Fabrica de Arte, an internationally recognised space that is such an extraordinary example of artistic performance and development that it has been included by Times magazine in its list of the 100 best places in the world to play music and has already hosted initiatives linked to Italy.

These events, organised with the support of the Italian Embassy in Cuba, also serve as a sneak preview of the annual Italian Culture Week, which takes place every November in Havana.
