Goodbye to Alberto Asor Rosa, distinguished Italianist and guiding light for generations of students
On her own behalf and the entire Sapienza community, Rector Antonella Polimeni expresses her condolences for the passing of Alberto Asor Rosa, professor emeritus of Sapienza, illustrious Italianist, leading figure in Italian culture and guiding light for generations of students, who passed away on December 21, 2022, at the age of 89.
A historian of Italian Literature, essayist and scholar, the Faculty of Arts and Humanities was his home for 52 years. He delivered his last lecture on June 5, 2003, but his support for Sapienza continued. On September 23, 2020, in a packed Aula Magna, he presented, together with philosopher Massimo Cacciari, the volume of the Meridiani that the Mondadori publishing house had dedicated to him.
Asor Rosa's students have put his teachings to good use in their research and teaching work as Sapienza lecturers, in their commitment to institutions, cultural enterprises and journalism.
