MuSa 2024 auditions open. Join Sapienza's orchestras!
Musica Sapienza (MuSa) offers the opportunity for self-taught or professional musicians from the university community to join the musical ensembles by auditioning from October 14 to 18.
MuSa classica welcomes instrumentalists and singers, both soloists and members of classical orchestras and choirs, with both institutional (conservatory or music school) and individual (private lessons) training, whatever their level. The MuSacisti are involved in the preparation of classical, orchestral and chamber music repertoire, from the Baroque to the 20th century, for initiatives such as institutional events (inauguration of the academic year, awarding of honorary degrees), concerts for the Sapienza community and productions of actual musical theatre, from Kurt Weill to Rugantino. In 2023 the successful chamber music festival I Giovedì della MuSa was launched, with the aim of showcasing the best resources of the MuSa in the prestigious setting of the recently restored Nuovo Teatro Ateneo, equipped with a Steinway piano. The most prestigious events are held in the Aula Magna. Other venues of equal importance are the Odeion Hall and the University Chapel.
MuSa Blues selects voices, instruments and dancers from the pop, rock, black, funky and afrosound genres for live events and recordings. Advanced formations (sound machine and vocal ensemble) and a comfort choir are available.
MuSa Jazz is organised into different ensembles coordinated by the director: the MuSa Jazz Orchestra, a real big band, and MuSa Jazz Combos, small and medium sized jazz ensembles. Rehearsals take place weekly from October to June. The MuSa Jazz ensembles perform at various venues withinSapienza and at prestigious venues in the city. All instrumentalists are welcome to join and play in the ensembles: all wind instruments, the rhythm section, but also instruments that are less common in the jazz tradition. A good reading of music, some familiarity with the jazz language, possibly improvisation skills and a desire to get involved are required. For the audition you can present yourself with backing tracks of your choice from the jazz repertoire: the files must be in .wav or .mp3 format. A short sight-reading and a short (optional) improvisation rehearsal on typical jazz harmonies (blues, standards, etc.) will be required.
EtnoMuSa deals with traditional music and Italian and international folk songs. Knowledge of music is not necessarily required, but the ability to play by ear and a constant presence at rehearsals. All instruments (especially percussion instruments such as the tambourine) and voices are welcome. All Erasmus students are also welcome to contribute traditional music from their home countries according to the orchestra's plans. The orchestra performs pieces from the Italian and international repertoire and regularly participates in various festivals and events both in Rome and in Italy.
To take part in the auditions, you must send your application by October 6 by filling in the form at the link provided. For MuSa Blues it would be desirable to also send a video (even if already published on the net) following the instructions given in the FAQ.
The dates for the auditions of each ensemble will be communicated by email between October 7 and 11.
