New joint Master's degree programme in Palaeolithic Archaeology at three European CIVIS universities
Sapienza, the University of Tübingen and the University of Aix-Marseille are offering a joint European study programme, which provides a triple degree in Mediterranean Archaeology with a curriculum in Palaeolithic Archaeology, awarded by the three partner universities of the CIVIS alliance. This is a training programme jointly developed by the three universities, integrating their expertise in the fields of Palaeolithic archaeology and ancillary disciplines, such as palaeoanthropology, palaeobotany, palaeogenetics, archaeozoology, geology and archaeometry.
The result is an interdisciplinary programme of excellence that enables students to approach the study of the Palaeolithic in a holistic manner, acquiring the theoretical and practical knowledge necessary to understand the complexity of the technological, social and cultural evolution of Palaeolithic human communities. Through participation in laboratory analyses, field trips and excavations, students will have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience of research activities related to the study of the Palaeolithic, thanks to the support of researchers from the participating universities. In addition to lecturers from Sapienza, Tübingen and Aix-Marseille, the programme will also include lecturers from the University of Witwatersrand in South Africa, where important Palaeolithic sites are being excavated.
The two-year programme will be delivered entirely in English and will last four semesters: the first will be held in Tübingen, while the following two semesters will take place at Sapienza and Aix-Marseille. During the fourth semester, students will write their dissertations at one of the three universities, which will always be supervised by professors from two of the three universities. Participants will have financial support for study visits abroad, through the Erasmus programme and scholarships from the Ministry of Universities and Research (Mur).
The triple Master's degree programme is open to those who hold a Bachelor's degree in Archaeology (or equivalent), and English at level B2 (or above), or have completed a Bachelor's degree (BA) entirely in English.
