"Salute Sociale" prize for Roberto Baiocco

Professor Roberto Baiocco awarded the Francesco De Sanctis Foundation Prize in the Mental Health in Gender Dysphoria category

On September 30, Roberto Baiocco, a member of the Department of Developmental and Social Psychology, was awarded the Fondazione Francesco De Sanctis' "Salute sociale" prize for Mental Health in Gender Dysphoria. The award was presented by Rocco Bellantone, President of the Istituto Superiore di Sanità, in the presence of Luigi Maruotti, President of the Consiglio di Stato, Gianni Letta, President of the De Sanctis Prize, and Andrea Abodi, Minister for Sport and Youth.

The jury - chaired by Franco Locatelli, President of the Consiglio superiore di sanità - awarded the prize with the following justification: "Professor Roberto Baiocco, psychologist, family therapist and full professor of developmental and educational psychology at Sapienza University of Rome, is a leading figure in the field of research on gender identity and sexual orientation. Since 2010, he has been the scientific director of the 6 come 6 (sei come sei) service at the department where he works, specialised in research and clinical intervention on issues related to gender identity and sexual orientation. Through his innovative studies, Professor Baiocco has explored the complex psychological dynamics associated with gender dysphoria, contributing significantly to improving clinical support and quality of care. Since 2021, his role in the Scientific Technical Committee on Diversity and Inclusion and the Teacher Training Commission at Sapienza University of Rome has underlined his commitment to promoting a more inclusive and aware educational and professional environment. By raising awareness through his involvement as a board member of the Società italiana genere, identità e salute, Professor Baiocco has made an important contribution to reducing stigma and promoting greater understanding of diversity".

The award is an acknowledgement of the work and passion that the Department, the Scientific Technical Committee on Diversity and Inclusion and Sapienza as a whole continue to put into reducing stigma and promoting an inclusive environment for all people from minority groups.
