Rome Blue Light Monument: Sapienza University celebrates 100 years since the discovery of insulin

On Tuesday, November 16, at 11.00 am, our Aula Organi collegiali, in the Rectorare building, will be hosting "Roma Blue Light Monument - La città eterna celebra una scoperta scientifica eterna: i cento anni della scoperta dell'Insulina" (The eternal city celebrates an eternal scientific discovery: the 100th anniversary of the discovery of insulin)". The event, organised a few days before World Diabetes Day, celebrates the 100th anniversary of the development and discovery of insulin as a drug

On Tuesday, November 16, at 11.00 am, our Aula Organi collegiali, in the Rectorare building, will be hosting "Roma Blue Light Monument - La città eterna celebra una scoperta scientifica eterna: i cento anni della scoperta dell'Insulina" (The eternal city celebrates an eternal scientific discovery: the 100th anniversary of the discovery of insulin)". The event, organised a few days before World Diabetes Day, celebrates the 100th anniversary of the development and discovery of insulin as a drug.

The centenary of the development and discovery of insulin as a drug, which took place in 1921 by Frederick G. Banting and Charles H. Best, supervised by John JR Macleod and in collaboration with James B. Collip, is a scientific milestone of vital importance for millions of people living with diabetes: a real turning point in the history of medicine.

Over the years, Sapienza's researchers and clinicians have contributed significantly to improving the quality of life of millions of people through treatments, research and prevention of this chronic disease of such great social, economic, epidemiological and clinical impact.
