Sapienza in the humanitarian delegation for Gaza children
On Thursday, February 6, the Italian delegation led by Antonio Tajani, Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Anna Maria Bernini, Minister of University and Research, left for the city of Ashdod to take part in the reception of the shipment of aid donated by Italy to the World Food Programme and goods as part of the "Food for Gaza" initiative.
Rector Antonella Polimeni joined the delegation with the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry, Domenico Alvaro, and infectivologist Gianluca Russo.
Sapienza, together with Policlinico Umberto I General Hospital, will provide expertise and medical support and, in this first phase, also an overview of the most urgent needs and targeted actions to be taken immediately. This includes taking care of a first group of children with cancer at the Umberto I Paediatric Clinic, in agreement with the Lazio Region.
In the coming days, Sapienza Doctors will meet in the cities of Jerusalem and Ramallah with representatives of the institutions and major humanitarian and charitable organisations involved in assisting the populations affected by the conflict.
