
Sapienza's Medicine and Surgery and Dentistry and Dental Prosthodontics programmes in Italian
From the 2025/26 academic year onwards, access to single-cycle degree programmes in Medicine and Surgery, and Dentistry and Dental Prosthodontics, in Italian, will be regulated by a new system called "semestre filtro" ( a very specific admission test after the first semester). This system has been introduced by the Ministry of University and Research.

For Italian citizens, citizens of another EU country and citizens of a non-EU country with a regular residence permit in Italy (EU equated)
Candidates who have one of the citizenships below:
- Italian;
- EU country other than Italy;
- non-EU country holding a regular residency permit (article 26 of Law no. 189/2002) Go to the dedicated page
in order to access the "semestre filtro" must have a Secondary school diploma obtained or to be obtained in the year 2025. If you have a qualification obtained in a foreign secondary education system, in addition to procedures set out in the Italian page, you have to carefully read the list of required documents on Sapienza University’s website
For non-EU citizens applying for a student visa
In order to access the semestre filtro, non-EU citizens residing abroad must apply for an incoming study visa. In addition to all procedures set out in the italian version of this page, they must meet the following requirements:
- Secondary school diploma obtained or to be obtained in 2025. If you have a qualification obtained in a non-italian secondary education system, you should carefully read the list of required documents on the Sapienza website
- Online pre-enrolment application, for obtaining an entry visa for study purposes ‘University enrolment’ for the academic year 2025-2026, filled in and submitted through the Universitaly portal (https://www.universitaly.it/studenti-stranieri) compulsorily by July 25, 2025. Pre-enrolment on the Universitaly portal is mandatory in order to obtain an entry visa for study purposes. Please note: pre-enrolment alone does not allow admission to the semestre filtro.
