
Wolf Prize award ceremony for Giorgio Parisi
On Monday, May 31, in the Senate Hall, the prestigious Wolf Prize for Physics 2021 was awarded to Giorgio Parisi "for his pioneering discoveries in quantum field theory, statistical mechanics and complex systems". The Wolf Prize is awarded annually by the Wolf Foundation to individuals who have distinguished themselves for their contribution to the advancement of humankind in the arts and sciences. The ceremony follows the awarding of the prize, which was made public on February 9.
Israel's Ambassador to Italy, Dror Eydar, and Israeli scientist Dan Shechtman, winner of the 1999 Wolf Prize for Physics and 2011 Nobel Prize for Chemistry, gave their institutional greetings. During the ceremony, Rectress Antonella Polimeni presented the medal to Professor Giorgio Parisi, who in his Acceptance Speech said he was honoured by the award and thrilled to have received it in his University.
