Educational goals

The PhD in Architecture and Construction has as its scientific goal the progress of architectural studies in relation to the difference areas of the art of building. At a time when globalization has reduced the possibilities of differences and limited the identification of local identities, it is necessary to question the knowledge of building in a constant critical dialogue with the reality of our cities and the changing different environmental condition. While building identifies a specific culture, a physical material environment from which construction methods and techniques derive, the observation of the differences in international realities is essential now more than ever. The research in our PHD is therefore carried out keeping two polarities: on the one hand the permanent features of our architectural culture that must be constantly renewed and updated, and on the other, the potential of the newest innovations that are taking place in the world. The framework of recent events has felt through the need for architecture to continue to carry out research by redefining its tools, two co-present dimensions: that of the depth of thematic developments that proceeds by continuity and by permanence and that defines by an inclusive and multiple attitude in which to trace the most advanced solicitations. Research on design and construction make use of complex contributions in terms of skills and methods of disciplinary interrelation for which doctoral students will be able to draw not only on the specific knowledge of architectural composition but also on disciplines such as the discipline of evaluation and discipline of technology. The general objective of the research is therefore to settle on a line of specificity and competence typical of the architectural culture of our country, so they may be able to operate in the different levels of scientific research: from the theoretical dimension to the application operational of the reached and vice versa. The research conducted in the PhD in Architecture and Construction is divided into three different curricula, Composition and Urban (A), Estimation and Evaluation (B), Urban Morphology (C), whose training objective is the provision of innovative skills and advanced tools in the field of scientific reference, and in which the PHD teachers should interrelate each other, through shared collective seminars, for the best achievement of research training.
