Call for solidarity in research and education
For the first time, Sapienza has planned a targeted call for researchers from countries experiencing critical economic or social situations. The Academic Senate has approved the Sapienza's call for solidarity in research and education - visiting professors in addition to the standard call for visiting professors in 2025, which is open to all countries.
Sapienza has allocated 198,000 euros for the new call, which will fund 22 grants of 9,000 euros each for a period of 90 days. The call for applications is aimed at lecturers, researchers and experts with proven scientific qualifications from universities, institutions or research bodies in the 35 countries spanning all continents, as set out in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation's three-year planning and policy document for development cooperation policy 2024-2026. To foster the mobility of researchers from countries at risk or in emergency conditions, the possible exposure of visiting professors to risk will be evaluated alongside the usual criteria relating to experience, authority, research objectives, teaching activities and expected results.
45% of the grants will be reserved for scholars from institutions based in Middle Eastern countries (Jordan, Iraq, Lebanon, Palestine and Syria). At least 60% of the funds reserved for the Middle East will be allocated to scholars from Palestine.
