Exhibition: Martin Luther King. Diritto alla libertà and Martin Luther King e l’Italia
From October 28, 2025 to January 15, 2026, Sapienza University of Rome will be hosting an exhibition on Martin Luther King and the value of his struggle for civil rights. The initiative is part of a cultural programme commissioned by Rector Polimeni and promoted by Sapienza on the theme of social justice, civic engagement and human dignity.
- “Martin Luther King. Diritto alla libertà”, an exhibition curated by Ashley Woods in collaboration with The King Centre & The Estate of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr and Real Expo, previously hosted at the Nobel Museum in Stockholm. Focusing on the African American civil rights movement of the 1950s and 1960s and King's vision of equality and justice through non-violence, the exhibition illustrates the global struggle for human rights, embracing the motto that “all lives are interconnected” and “what directly affects one, indirectly affects all”.
- “Martin Luther King e l’Italia”, the result of a scientific and cultural project coordinated by Irene Baldriga and conducted by Sapienza University as part of its Outreach activities. The exhibition highlights the connections between the American civil rights movement and Italian society at the time — from politics to literature, religion to popular culture. An original and little-known perspective, the result of research carried out in numerous Italian archives, which enriches our understanding of the universal message of freedom and justice embodied by the black leader.
Admission to the exhibition will be free for all visitors.
