I am a diagnostic radiologist with expertise in body MR imaging. My research centers on the development of clinical applications of MR guided high intensity focused ultrasound (MRgFUS). I have been the Principal Investigator or co-Director at Stanford University of multi-center trials using MRgFUS to palliate pain from metastases to bone, to treat uterine fibroids, to perform thalamotomy to treat essential tremor, and to treat focal prostate cancer. After completion of these trials, I have established clinical services to treat bone metastases, uterine fibroids, essential tremor, and prostate cancer. Currently, I co-direct clinical trials using MR guided focused ultrasound to treat epilepsy, Parkinson disease, and pancreatic cancer. Because of my record of continued productivity in my research projects and of successful leadership in clinical trials, and my passion for the translation of new clinical applications of high intensity focused ultrasound for improving patient care, I have been designated the Director of the Stanford Minimally Invasive MR Interventional Center and of the Stanford Focused Ultrasound Center of Excellence. I also serve as Chief of the MRI Body Division, Department of Radiology, Stanford University.

Prof. Stefano Stramigioli
University of Twente – Netherlands
Visiting the Department of of Computer, Automation and Management Engineering from 25/02/2024 to 24/03/2024

Prof. Stamigioli will teach a course on physical modelling and control. This will include the proper mathematical background relating to linear algebra, tensor calculus, and differential geometry, which is needed to properly discuss duality in the nonlinear physical setting. The presented material will introduce the main concepts used in port-Hamiltonian system theory and bond graph notation. When dealing with the modelling and control of physical systems, such as robots, it is essential to understand what is dictated by physics and what is merely a consequence of the user’s choice of coordinates. For this reason, there will be a strong emphasis on coordinate-free thinking and tools.

We intend to design a secure, portable and upgradable smart contract runtime with full support for multi-TEE deployments. To achieve this, we plan to develop new libraries and tools to leverage heterogeneous Trusted Execution Environments (e.g., Intel SGX, Intel TDX, Arm TrustZone, AMD SEV) for blockchain.  We will overcome the technical challenges by leveraging WASM, building atop our previous work for secure execution of WASM in Intel SGX and TrustZone. The research activity will kick-off the development of the required libraries to deploy and run a smart contract across nodes with diverse TEEs.

Prof Augusto Dal Pozzo
Pontifícia Universidade Católica de São Paulo, Brazil
Visiting the department of Law from 10/01/2024 to 10/01/2026
Host Professor: Prof. Ines Ciolli
This investigation aims to identify the main interconnections existing in Italian doctrine between Constitutional Law and Administrative Law. On the basis of an analysis which inevitably has a historical dimension, it will be possible to develop comparisons with Brazilian dynamics, as already mentioned in the introduction. For a correct understanding of the subject, it is essential to examine the public structures that make up the Italian constitutional state - the state powers and the administrative entities.
The objective is to build a transversal line of reasoning and research between the two spheres, underlining the epistemological unity that runs through public law. An institutionalist perspective will be adopted.
