Art. 34 - ENROLMENT IN PROGRAMMES UNDER THE “PREVIOUS UNIVERSITY SYSTEM”: RULES, VARIATION OF COSTS AND FORFEITURE

1. Requirements and terms

The term ‘old university system’ refers to degree programmes prior to the ministerial reform pursuant to Ministerial Decree 509/99.

2. Costs

If you are actively enrolled in a degree programme under the old university system, you will be required to pay tuition fees that are 50% higher than the standard amount.

3. Change of university system

A. To avoid incurring the surcharge, you can request a change of university system in accordance with the procedures set out in Article 31.

B. To change to a programme with scheduled admission, you must meet the following conditions, unless otherwise specified by the teaching departments:

- Three-year degree programmes: to be admitted to the second year, you must have at least 40 eligible credits.

- Master's degree programmes: to be admitted to the second year, you must have at least 200 eligible credits (180 + 20) and you must have been awarded a three-year degree.

C. The recognition of credits, based on the exams taken, and the transition to programmes under Ministerial Decree 270/04 is based on specific conversion tables drawn up by the Faculties.

4. Forfeitures

A. You will forfeit your position if you are enrolled in a programme under the old university system and do not take any examinations for eight consecutive academic years, with the exception of non-qualifying degrees, for which the validity of examinations is extended to ten years, as established by Article 149 of Royal Decree No. 1592 of 31 August 1933 and subsequent Law No. 15 of 21 February 2025.

B. Forfeiture applies regardless of the payment of fees.

C. Forfeiture is automatic: the University is not required to directly notify you of your forfeiture status or to warn you that forfeiture is imminent.

D. You will not incur forfeiture if you fall into at least one of the following cases:

D1. You have passed all your exams and only have your degree exam left to take. In this case, you may enrol at any time, provided you renew your enrolment.

D2. You have failed a course exam by 31 January of the eighth academic year following the date of entry of the last course exam taken (tenth academic year for non-qualifying degrees).

D3. You have changed your university system in accordance with Article 31.

D4. You have transferred to another degree programme under Ministerial Decree 270/04 in accordance with Article 6.

E. In the event of forfeiture, you may request the return of your secondary school diploma, if you submitted it at the time of enrolment. The request must be made by appointment with the administrative office, to be arranged by email.

Note: original diplomas were only deposited with the administrative office until 1999.

F. After forfeiture, if you wish, you may re-enrol in a degree programme under Ministerial Decree 270/04, following the procedures contained in the call for applications/notice regulating access to the programme, and request recognition of the exams taken under the old university system in accordance with the procedures specified in Article 22, point 4, letter b.
