Sapienza confirms its position among the top Italian and international Universities, according to the most authoritative international university rankings. Here is an overview of the rankings published this year, in chronological order, starting from the most recent publication

Sapienza first worldwide in Classical Studies for the fifth year running

Sapienza first in the world in Classics. The 2025 edition of the QS World University Rankings by Subject, published on March 12, confirms for the 5th consecutive year Sapienza's absolute supremacy in Classics and Ancient History with a score of 99.1 and the national supremacy in two out of five subject areas: ‘Arts & Humanities’ and ‘Natural Sciences’, ranked 40th and 61st worldwide respectively.

The Ranking analyses 55 subjects grouped into 5 broad subject areas. Sapienza was ranked in 46 disciplines, registering an improvement at macro-area level, with 3 of them placed in the top 100 (Arts & Humanities, Natural Sciences, Engineering & Technology).

Sapienza top Italian university for Times Higher Education World Reputation Ranking 2025

The 2025 World Reputation Ranking, published on February 18, 2025 by Times Higher Education (THE), places Sapienza in 90th position, moving up from the 91-100 range of the 2024 ranking. Sapienza is also top Italian university, followed by the University of Bologna in 92nd place and the Politecnico di Milano in the 101-150 range.

The Times Higher Education's World Reputation Ranking lists the world's top 300 universities and is based on an extensive, invitation-only survey of academics. The survey asks academics from a range of disciplines to nominate up to 15 institutions for research and up to 15 institutions for teaching. They are also asked to rank five universities, the names of which are given to each respondent based on their research experience. The latest edition of the survey received 55,000 responses.

 

THE Subject 2025 ranks Sapienza 33rd in the world and first in Italy in Arts and Humanities

The international agency Times Higher Education (THE) published the World University Rankings by Subject 2025 assigning Sapienza the first position in Italy and 33rd worldwide in Arts and Humanities, with an improvement of 10 positions compared to last year.

Law is ranked 75th and Physical Sciences 99th in the world top 100.

In the Times Higher Education Rankings by Subject, universities are ranked in 11 disciplines: Arts and Humanities, Business and Economics, Medical and Health, Computer Science, Education Studies, Engineering, Law, Life Sciences, Physical Sciences, Psychology, Social Sciences.

The indicators taken into account are Teaching, Research Environment, Research Quality, Industry, International Outlook.

The Times Higher Education agency published the 2025 edition of the World University Rankings on September 10, 2024; Sapienza was ranked 185th worldwide, third among Italian universities.
