
Professor Tullio Gregory Passes Away
The Sapienza Community sadly bids farewell to Tullio Gregory, Sapienza Professor Emeritus and one illustrious Philosophy Historian, who passed away at age 90 on March 3, 2019.
Tullio Gregory graduated from Sapienza University in 1950 with Dante Alighieri Expert Bruno Nardi. In 1962, he was appointed as Professor of Medieval Philosophyand in1967 became the Chair of Philosophy. In addition to his fervent academic commitment, Prof. Gregory also collaborated with the “Treccani” Encyclopaedia and the National Research Council, as well as in international research activities, collaborating in particular with the Sorbonne and becoming a member of the British Academy and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. Gregory’s personality and thought forged the educations on various generations of students and provided a fundamental contribution to Italy, keeping philosophy at the centre of contemporary reflection, even with his participation in the Festival of Philosophy.
