Sapienza’s new policies for university research and sustainability
Approved a Position Paper on sustainability and launched a working group to develop a single, easy-to-access online platform to ensure the transparency of all research projects and agreements of Faculties, Departments and Centres, in line with the Ricerc@Sapienza portal. The new tool will make it easier to find out about the research carried out by all of Sapienza’s structures.
"For Sapienza, transparency is much more than a fulfilment: it is a value. Extending the clarification of research activities carried out by each Sapienza’s structure is a step that completes what we have already been doing as a central administration for several years," says Rector Antonella Polimeni. "The launch of this additional phase responds to the requests that have emerged from meetings with students in recent weeks”.
At the same time, a policy document, drawn up by Sapienza's Committee for Sustainability, was approved, which defines Sapienza's policy on the ecological transition.
The position paper introduces and makes explicit, for the first time in Sapienza, the importance of favouring agreements and collaborations with partners that are in line with the principle of climate neutrality, whose activities are consistent with the decarbonisation process and that respect environmental, social and governance (ESG) sustainability criteria.
The document ensures the dissociation of our university from initiatives that do not adhere to these principles while respecting freedom of thought and research and academic freedom. At the same time, it advocates the adoption of a "best effort" approach, which aims to reward incremental improvements by partners that adopt sustainable transition paths.
"Our position paper is a further step in a journey that has already seen us strongly committed to the issue of energy transition, as confirmed by the latest international rankings on sustainability, which place us at the national top and in prominent international positions”, adds the Rector. We are currently carrying out an internal review of the research projects activated by our Departments, to ensure that they are on the right track and that our partners are in agreement with our sustainability policy”.
