AURORA

AURORA - Accelerated deployment of integrated CCUS chains based on solvent capture technology

ID Call: HORIZON-CL5-2022-D3-01-15 Decarbonising industry with CCUS

Sapienza's role in the project: Other beneficiary

Scientific supervisor for Sapienza: Sabina Bigi

Department: Earth Sciences

Project start date: January 1, 2023

Project end date: June 30. 2026

Abstract:

The AURORA project will make a significant contribution to the decarbonisation of industry by demonstrating and qualifying an advanced and innovative solvent-based CO2 capture technology named CESAR1 for large-scale cost-efficient integration. The technology will be demonstrated at TRL7-8 (Technology readiness level) in at least three CO2-intensive industries: refining, cement, and materials recycling, as sectors where other alternatives towards climate neutrality do not exist yet.

The Tectonics and Fluid Chemistry laboratory led by Prof. S. Bigi is working on geological storage feasibility studies for the characterisation of the entire CO2 capture/transport and storage process in the Mediterranean area.
