European and international funding
Sapienza promotes and supports the participation of lecturers, researchers and PhD students in programmes and funding calls published by international public and private bodies.
The most significant sources of external funding include:
- Horizon Europe programme, the main financial instrument promoted by the European Union for the period 2021-2027, which is divided into various and multiple sections including the ERC Programme, which funds outstanding researchers for cutting-edge research, and the MSCA Actions, which support mobility and the exchange of knowledge among researchers from different countries and sectors, thereby promoting excellence in research and innovation.
- European Partnerships are projects between the European Commission and private and public partners that aim to achieve the objectives of Horizon Europe in specific key sectors.
- European cooperation calls for proposals support public administrations, universities and private organisations in improving the formulation and implementation of regional, local and territorial development policies.
Horizon Europe Sapienza projects
In recent years, Sapienza has undertaken numerous research projects funded by the European Union, covering an extremely wide range of subject areas and scientific disciplines, and achieving excellence in many fields, including, to name but a few, archaeology, physics and astrophysics, the humanities and cultural heritage, the environment, nanotechnology, cell and gene therapy, design, aerospace, and the social and economic sciences.
