SDG 14: Conserving and sustainably using the oceans, seas and marine resources for sustainable development
Marine biodiversity and cetaceans in the Mediterranean Sea
In collaboration with the Tethys Institute, Sapienza takes part in a programme on Mediterranean biodiversity and, specifically, on local whales and dolphins. This cooperation agreement will last for 2 (two) years.
Protecting Isola del Giglio's marine environment
Sapienza, in collaboration with the Underwater Pro Tour association of Giglio Island (an Italian island off the coast of Tuscany), carries out specific activities to protect the island's seabed, by involving sport divers, surveying areas polluted by waste and fishing gear and monitoring the presence of the protected mollusc Pinna nobilis.
Underwater noise level monitoring
Sapienza collaborates with Ispra to assess underwater noise levels produced by ships, which causes serious disturbance to marine fauna, particularly cetaceans.
