Art. 22 - RECOGNITION OF EXAMS AND POSSIBLE SHORTENING OF THE PROGRAMME

1. Requirements and terms

A. You can request recognition of exams taken in another degree programme if:

- you transfer to another Sapienza programme in years following the first (Art. 6);

- you transfer from another Italian university (Art. 7);

- you withdraw your enrolment (Art. 32);

- you are dismissed (Art. 34);

- you change your degree programme (Art. 31);

- you have already been awarded another Italian or foreign qualification;

- you have attended a Master's degree programme or advanced programme. In this case, a maximum of 12 CFUs (university credits) may be awarded (ref. University Teaching Regulations).

B. You cannot request recognition of:

- individual exams (Art. 26);

- exams from a three-year degree programme, including exams taken to comply with the assessment of requirements, in the case of enrolment in a second level two-year degree programme;

- exams from degrees awarded prior to Ministerial Decree 509/99, as these are used to comply with the assessment of requirements, in the case of enrolment in a second level two-year degree programme.

C. The programme may only be shortened if the number of credits awarded results in a reduction in the number of years remaining to obtain the degree, compared to the normal duration.

2. Procedures

A. If you have an Italian qualification: follow the procedure specified on the page https://www.uniroma1.it/it/node/28758

B. If you have a qualification awarded in a foreign education system (Art. 9): send your application, bearing the appropriate tax stamp, to the International Students Office within 30 days of the date of payment of the first instalment for the first year of the programme, following the procedures specified on the dedicated page on the university website.

C. The assessment of your academic career for the purposes of credit recognition is based on your entire previous educational history, subject to any provisions of the teaching departments. After assessing your previous academic career, the teaching department will determine the year of the programme you can enrol in, based on the number of recognisable exams, and the Administrative Office will make the relevant changes on Infostud.

3. Deadlines

A. If you have an Italian qualification, you must submit your application within 15 calendar days of the date of payment of the first instalment of the enrolment fee for the first year of the new degree programme.

B. If you have a qualification awarded in a foreign education system (Art. 9), you must submit your application within 30 calendar days of the date of payment of the first instalment of the enrolment fee for the first year of the new degree programme.

4. Costs

A. Following the assessment of the student's academic career and the decision taken by the teaching departments, regardless of the number of credits validated, in the event of a change in the programme year, the system may produce an adjustment to the amount of the enrolment fees, which will be applied to subsequent instalments.

Any adjustment will be visible on Infostud. No further notification will be provided in this regard.

B. For the recognition of exams following withdrawal from enrolment (Art. 32), a fixed fee of €290 is payable for each academic year between the last enrolment and the request for recognition, up to a maximum of €4,500. Upon request, the Administrative Office will calculate the amount and generate the due amount on Infostud.

B1. If there are outstanding contributions at the time of withdrawal, the fixed fee also applies to the years in arrears.

B2. If you enrol in the year immediately following the year of withdrawal:

- if you have paid all enrolment fees for the academic year of withdrawal, only the amount of fees for the academic year in which you are applying for re-enrolment is due;

- if you have not paid the enrolment fees for the academic year of withdrawal or have made a partial payment (only the first or second instalment), you will have to pay the fixed fee of €290, without penalties, plus the amount of the fees for the academic year in which you are applying for re-enrolment.

B3. If you have a disability or invalidity equal to or above 66% or you have a disability certificate pursuant to Article 3, paragraph 1, of Law No. 104 of 5 February 1992, you will be required to pay a fixed fee of £30 for each year of non-enrolment. This benefit applies from the year in which the disability application was submitted to the Italian National Social Security Institute (INPS).

C. For the recognition of exams following forfeiture, you must pay, within the enrolment deadlines set for each degree programme:

- a fixed fee of €290 for each academic year redeemed, up to a maximum of €2,300;

- the first instalment of the enrolment fees for the academic year 2025-2026;

- the regional tax for the right to study for the academic year 2025-2026;

- stamp duty.

The amount will be generated on Infostud by the Administrative Office.

C1. If you have a disability or invalidity equal to or above 66% or you have a disability certificate pursuant to Article 3, paragraphs 1 and 3, of Law No. 104 of 5 February 1992, you will be required to pay €30 for each year redeemed. This benefit applies from the year in which the disability application was submitted to the National Social Security Institute (INPS).
