Sapienza's contribution to research
Sapienza is committed to consolidating its role as a centre of scientific excellence. This commitment is demonstrated through its solid governance, which is focused on supporting research, scientific excellence, international competitiveness, the creation of public value, and social responsibility. Sapienza also implements proactive strategies in order to respond to the challenges of the national and European context.
Sapienza's strategies are based on a number of key cross-cutting principles, outlined in the document on Sapienza's Policies for Research and Innovation, in line with the objectives of Sapienza's Strategic Plan and Statute:
- HR Excellence in Research: Sapienza has held this accreditation from the European Commission since 2020, having fully adhered to the principles of the European Charter for Researchers in order to promote open, meritocratic and inclusive recruitment.
- Research ethics: Sapienza is committed to conducting research in an ethical, safe and responsible manner. To this end, it has adopted a structured system of 'ethical governance' to promote and ensure compliance with the principles of social responsibility.
- Research Integrity: Sapienza considers integrity to be a fundamental aspect of scientific research. To this end, it implements specific rules, networks, and mechanisms to ensure that all activities are conducted with honesty, rigour, objectivity, clarity, and social responsibility..
- Sapienza for Open Access: Sapienza strongly supports the principle of open access in order to maximise the visibility and impact of scientific output.
- Quality of research: Sapienza plays a central role in coordinating research quality assessment procedures at institutional and departmental levels, as well as other important initiatives, such as the 'Departments of Excellence 2023–2027' project. Sapienza also actively supports the academic community in seeking funding by providing internal tools that ensure constant updates on available calls for proposals.
