Sapienza University Residences

Over the past few years, Sapienza University of Rome, with a view to enhancing actions in support of student accommodation solutions, has participated in ministerial tenders for co-financing the construction of accommodation and residences for university students (Law 338/2000), obtaining funds to develop several renovation and recovery projects for several buildings

Luca Serianni Residence

The Residence, which will open on December 1, 2022, is near the Main Campus and can be accessed from via del Castro Laurenziano 2 bis.

Part of the former Regina Elena hospital complex, formerly used as teaching facilities for various departments, was renovated and adapted to the new housing requirements, while respecting the original architecture.

Today, building A offers 240 beds, divided into double, single and single rooms for the people with disabilities, each with a private bathroom. There are also four kitchens on each floor, a laundry room available to all residents and three study rooms.

For the management of the Residence, Sapienza relies on the support of an external company, which was awarded a special contract following a public tender.

The manager, in agreement with Sapienza, organises numerous opportunities for socialisation for the residents, in order to increase the sense of belonging and togetherness through events, workshops, recreational and cultural occasions.

Recipients

The Residence named after Professor Luca Serianni is primarily intended for students of the School of Advanced Studies (SSAS), who are admitted through an annual public competition announced by the School itself.

All residents are required to comply with the Luca Serianni Residence Regulations (Downloads section_in Italian)

Other university residences under construction

Via Palestro 63 Residence and ex Dopolavoro

The project for the building in Via Palestro 63, located in the Castro Pretorio district between the Main Campus and Termini Station, envisages the construction of single and double rooms for a total of 80 beds. The former Dopolavoro, located within the Main Campus, will host additional accommodation, for a total of 7 beds, and various related services for the use of students also resident in the via Palestro building, such as study rooms and a conference hall.

The project will be completed by 2024.

Residence on via Osoppo

Sapienza has acquired from the State Property Office the area on Via Osoppo that was originally used as a public transport depot, with the aim of creating a real campus in the immediate vicinity of the Main Campus. The complex covers an area of approximately 9,000 square metres and is characterised by the presence of an important section of the Aurelian Walls, which will be enhanced in the new redevelopment project. In terms of student services, there are plans for a residence with 200 places, divided into double, single and single rooms for people with disabilities, a range of related services, sports facilities and green areas.

Work on this campus started in 2022 and is scheduled for completion in 2024.

Residence in Latina

The Residence will be located in a former military compound, close to the city centre, in which several buildings have already been renovated and now house the degree programmes of the Faculty of Economics and Business of Sapienza University, the Polo Pontino Service Centre and the 'Ottorino Respighi' Conservatory. The Residence will be built in a wing of one of the courtyard buildings facing Via Ezio 32, thus completing the redevelopment of the area and its transformation into a small university campus.

The works are in the process of being awarded.
