Plastic-Free Sapienza

Since 2019 Sapienza has been organising a series of important initiatives to reduce the use of disposable plastic objects
Since 2019 Sapienza has launched a series of initiatives for the reduction of disposable plastic, in line with the agreement signed by the Conference of Italian University Rectors (CRUI) with the Marevivo Association and the National Inter-University Consortium for Science (Conisma) aimed at joining the #StopSingleUsePlastic campaign.

The Academic Senate approved several important changes on April 16, 2019.

During the "Sapienza Open Days 2019" event metal flasks were distributed to avoid the huge environmental impact represented by the plastic bottles used in past editions of the event;  more nozzles have been added to the several drinking water fountains in the Campus. Through internal communication (no. 0059243 – 03/07/2019) plastic bottles and cups have been banned at the speakers' tables during the conferences in Sapienza.

Additional environmentally-friendly gadgets have been added to the Sapienza Merchandising catalogue, while orders for office stationery and vending machine containers have been replaced by biodegradable materials where possible.

All members of our university community can help reduce plastic waste. The Rector invites all students celebrating their graduation in the Campus's gardens to avoid metallic plastic confetti and any material that can damage the environment.
