Disabilities and specific learning difficulties

Sapienza offers specific services for people with disabilities, learning difficulties and other special educational needs. These services can help you remove the barriers that limit your full expression as a member of the university community

New Support Services for Students with Disabilities, Specific Learning Difficulties and Other Special Educational Needs

Sapienza offers support if you:

  • have a disability
  • have a Specific Learning Difficulty (SpLD), such as dyslexia
  • have other Special Educational Needs (SEN)
  • have a neurodevelopmental condition
  • have a diagnosed mental health condition
  • have a medical condition that affects your studies, even if it is temporary.

The support service can help you:study, take exams and other assessments, take part in university life.

The service will work with you to find the support that best meets your needs.

From September 1, 2026, these services are better than before.

They are:easier to find, easier to use, more accessible.

Below, you will find:how the service works and what you need to do.

Before you apply - orientation

If you have a disability or a Specific Learning Difficulty and you want to study at Sapienza, we are here to help.

Our Orientation page explains:how to apply to Sapienza, what support is available and how to get ready before you start your course.

Go to the Orientation page.

Support for admission tests

If you have a disability, a Specific Learning Difficulty (SpLD), or other Special Educational Needs (SEN), you can ask for support when you take your admission test.

Support is available to help you take the test in the best way for your needs.

Go to the Support for admission tests page.

Your first step as a Sapienza student: contact the Central Student Support Service

Your First Steps

After you have taken your knowledge assessment or admission test for a Sapienza programme (see the Support for admission tests page if you need support), follow these steps.

Step 1

Tell Sapienza about your disability, Specific Learning Difficulty (SpLD), or other Special Educational Needs (SEN) on Infostud, if you have not already done so when you applied.

Step 2

Ask to join the support service by sending an email to:

Step 3

The Central Student Support Service will check your documents to make sure they meet the requirements for support. (Check the Regulations, in Italian, for information about which certificates are accepted to access support services and assistance. If you have a certificate from another country, please contact us.)

Step 4

The Central Student Support Service will prepare a support plan with you.

The support plan may include:

  • your support needs
  • reasonable adjustments for your learning and assessments
  • assistive technology or other support tools
  • help to develop your academic skills
  • changes to teaching or assessments, where needed
  • Italian Sign Language (LIS) and tactile LIS interpreters where appropriate
  • financial support, fee exemptions, or travel and mobility support, if you are eligible.

Second step: Contact Your Faculty Support Service

If the Central Student Support Service has checked your documents, or if you are already enrolled and are not in your first year, you can contact your Faculty Support Service.

The Faculty Support Service can help you request:

  • support during lectures
  • adjustments for exams
  • other support you are entitled to receive.

Who will you find in your Faculty?

You will find a Specialist Inclusion Tutor (TSI).

The TSI will:

  • prepare and update your support plan
  • follow your progress during your university studies
  • help you if you need specific support.

For example, the TSI can help with:

  • access needs and practical arrangements
  • support during exams
  • finding the right university service for you.

If needed, the TSI can also direct you to other services, such as:

  • psychological support
  • support to develop learning and thinking skills.

You will also find a Faculty (or Department) Contact Lecturer.

This person:

  • knows about your support needs through the TSI
  • helps if you have difficulties with an exam or with a lecturer.

How to request support

When you need support, contact your Faculty by email in advance.

Please contact them:

  • at least 10 days before an exam, or
  • at least one week before a lecture you want to attend.

You can also email the Faculty to arrange an appointment.
