To achieve its Terza Missione (Outreach) objectives, Sapienza promotes innovation and technology transfer by collaborating with its research departments and groups. It achieves this by identifying and monitoring the research outcomes and technological expertise possessed by Sapienza as a whole, and promoting their enhancement.

In particular through: 

• support for the creation of businesses based on technologies and expertise developed at Sapienza;
• assistance in defining development strategies;
• managing interactions with Sapienza's technological know-how through start-ups and spin-offs; 
• the protection and enhancement of intellectual property, with particular reference to Sapienza's patent portfolio;
• collaboration between Sapienza and its academic staff with other universities and/or private entities through consortia, clusters and inter-university centres for the purposes of research and the Terza Missione.
